Joanna Leigh
BAFTA-nominated screenwriter
Red Planet Prize winner 2008
Jo could be mistaken for a metropolitan blue-stocking intellectual, but remains a small-town Welsh rock chick at heart.
Jo’s signature style is to mix the intellectual with the dramatic, using humour and a deftness of touch to produce screenplays that are warm and whimsical, accessible and entertaining.
Jo has worked for, amongst others, Trouble TV, XPT, NESTA, Noel Gay Television, Vanson Productions, Red Planet, BBC Four, and BBC Wales.
Jo has an MA in screenwriting from the London College of Communication and has just completed a practice-based PhD in the ethics of writing biographical film.
Major projects
Planet Jemma – a BAFTA-nominated 14-part web drama for teenage girls, about the life of first year science student Jemma, which relates concepts from physics to her struggles with life, love and lab work.
Sam J – a single drama depicting the 18th century lexicographer Samuel Johnson’s epic struggle to write the first dictionary of English. Winner of the 2008 Red Planet Prize and currently in development with Red Planet Pictures and the BBC.
